Special Containment Procedures:
Instances of SCP-ES-208 are to be stored in a secure storage locker in Area-242, access to them must be authorized by the Head of Research.
SCP-ES-208-C instances must be housed in a standard containment greenhouse and watered once a week. Staff members working in the vicinity of the containment area or responsible for the care of the anomaly will be provided with any available stimulants to prevent drowsiness. As a precaution, sleeping within five meters of the greenhouse is strictly prohibited.
It is unknown whether there are any additional instances of SCP-ES-208 outside of containment, but in the event of incursions at bases or attacks by the Children of the Vine and associated sects, investigations must be conducted to search for instances of SCP-ES-208. If any are found, appropriate containment measures shall be applied.
Update 12-6-2010:
Following incident ES-208-11 experiments involving SCP-ES-208-C have been suspended until a safe method for conducting the research can be found.
Description:
SCP-ES-208 is the collective designation for a series of seeds that are only capable of germinating upon entering the human body. Those affected, hereafter referred to as SCP-ES-208-B, will undergo four stages of infection, described below:
Photograph of a specimen of SCP-ES-208-C in bloom, with some SCP-ES-208 fruits.
- Phase 1: Upon ingesting an instance of SCP-ES-208, the subject immediately falls into a coma. All attempts to wake instances of SCP-ES-208-B have been unsuccessful.
- Phase 2: Approximately ten minutes after ingestion, SCP-ES-208 specimens begin to germinate, spreading their roots throughout the internal organs of SCP-ES-208-B; at the end of this phase, flower stalks can be observed emerging from the subjects’ mouths. Removing SCP-ES-208 at this stage will halt the progression of the infection; however, it will not bring the subject out of the coma.
- Phase 3: After five hours, the roots and stems of SCP-ES-208 begin to assimilate the tissues of SCP-ES-208-B, converting its cells into plant cells. Although, by the time this phase is well advanced, the vast majority of the subject’s organs are no longer functioning, it remains alive through unknown anomalous mechanisms.
- Phase 4: Eleven hours after infection, SCP-ES-208-B is completely assimilated and transformed into an instance of SCP-ES-208-C.
SCP-ES-208-C is the designation for a species of anomalous trees that have emerged from SCP-ES-208 and are morphologically similar to trees of the Jacaranda genus. These trees grow as expected and require the same care as a non-anomalous specimen, producing instances of SCP-ES-208 each year in approximately October and November.
Subjects within a five-meter radius of SCP-ES-208-C will feel extreme fatigue and a strong urge to sleep; if they enter REM sleep within said radius, they will report having dreams about “flying forests” and will subsequently experience hallucinations related to this phenomenon.2. These hallucinations prevent those affected from falling asleep, and they experience a desire to sleep while lying on top of SCP-ES-208-C. If they do so, SCP-ES-208-C will assimilate their bodies through a process similar to that undergone by SCP-ES-208-B in Phase 3, providing nutrients to the anomaly and promoting its growth.

Discovery:
SCP-ES-208 was discovered during a raid conducted by the Unusual Incidents Unit at a plastics factory in Pennsylvania, USA. The factory had been taken over by a group of six thaumaturgical eco-terrorists belonging to the group “The Children of the Bramble,” a sect that had previously been part of “The Children of the Vine” but eventually split off to operate independently. UIU agents apprehended the six assailants— however, five of them ingested SCP-ES-208, and only the last member was successfully apprehended.
The following is the report provided by one of the UdII agents who led the arrest:

The following document, prepared at the Foundation’s request, summarizes all the information we have regarding the eco-terrorist group known as “The Children of the Vine” (hereinafter referred to as TSZ for brevity). For further information beyond what is provided here, please request the relevant documents.
Description of TCV:
The group is believed to have formed sometime between 2008 and 2009, when Moon Colline broke away from the deviant sect known as the "Children of the Vine," taking several supporters of her cause with her. The current relationship between these two groups is unknown, but it is believed that, despite having some ideological conflicts, they are generally an extremist and openly violent sect.

TCV's motivations stem from their religious beliefs; we don't know much about them, but we do know that they worship a god of nature and plants, which is why they have made saving the environment their mission.
Based on the limited information we have managed to gather, we surmise that, unlike the Children of the Vine—who, although they do not seem to hold humans in high regard, are primarily opposed to the modern way of life—the Children of the Bramble openly reject the human condition in all its forms, encouraging their members to “abandon it.”3
So far, their attacks have targeted distributors and factories that produce polluting materials such as plastic and its derivatives. Among their abilities, we know that a large number of their members possess knowledge of phytomancy, which they frequently use in their attacks.
We do not know what methods they use to communicate and organize themselves, as we have not been able to detect or intercept any form of communication. We presume they communicate via an unknown, anomalous means.
Arrest of Group Members:
On March 14, 2010, Charles Limb was spotted at Backdoor Soho by agents from the UIU, having been previously identified through security camera footage from a warehouse in Brooklyn, where he had caused minor damage to private property a month earlier, claiming responsibility for the attack on behalf of the group.
Instead of arresting him, we decided to keep him under surveillance so he could lead us to other members of the group. A few weeks later, our efforts paid off when he traveled to the borough of West Hazleton, Pennsylvania, to meet with five other members of the group; the next day, they carried out the attack.
As soon as we realized what their objective was, we gathered as many agents as we could and raided the factory. We quickly located the terrorists and took them by surprise. When they saw us, one of them shouted, “They outnumber us,” and pulled out what we believed to be suicide pills, swallowing one and passing out instantly; the others followed suit, and we quickly tried to stop them, but we were only able to stop one in time.
After securing the prisoner, we inspected the factory; the employees were trapped high up in trees that had sprung from the ground through thaumaturgical means, their branches forming a sort of cell that could hold 4 to 7 employees. The factory machinery, meanwhile, had been damaged by similar thaumaturgical means—pierced or blocked by branches and roots of plants that had sprouted through the concrete floor.
After examining the prisoner, it was discovered that these "suicide pills" were actually seeds and that the individuals who had consumed them were still alive.
In the attached documents, you will find a transcript of the interrogation of the captured TCV member.
The incident was allegedly covered up with the help of the UdII as a fire in the factory machinery; the employees were intimidated by agents of the Foundation. Subsequent interrogations of Aziz Ortega by the Foundation did not yield any significantly more relevant information, so he was returned to the UdII to face the corresponding conviction and sentence.
Exploration Log ES-208-1
On June 5, 2010, an experiment was conducted with SCP-ES-208-C. The experiment involved allowing a Class D (D-3141) to sleep near an instance of SCP-ES-208-C, after which MTF Omicron Ro ("The Dream Team") would take the opportunity to enter the subject's dreams using their shadows4, below is a report on what happened..
Reconnaissance Report by Agent Roberto Villalobos (Alpha), MTF Omicron Ro ("The Dream Team")
My squad consisted of three people: me, Delta, and Rho. We prepared as usual for the entry into D-3141’s subconscious. When we managed to enter, we found ourselves on what looked like a hill with very tall grass and fruit bushes from which juicy berries hung; in the sky, we could see clusters of plants that seemed to form small forests floating all around us, and we could see their leaves moving in the wind.
We ran into the Shadow of D-3141 and explained to him how we were going to proceed. He seemed confused—as is common in these cases — and wasn’t quite aware that this was a dream, but he obeyed. The four of us began to move forward at a steady pace across the field; everything smelled like wet earth, every now and then we would see various creatures flying or jumping among the grasses; they weren't like the animals of the waking world, but had very different forms — some seemed to have bodies fused with plants.
Eventually, something caught our attention: it was an arch of bushes in the middle of the field. It stood out because of its size, and inside it, we could see what looked like a forest— a landscape that contrasted sharply with the open field outside. We discussed it and agreed to go through it.
When we crossed to the other side, I was overwhelmed by the scent of the flowers — it was intoxicating. That, combined with the colorful landscape of the trees, distracted me for several seconds from the fact that we were surrounded. It was a clearing in the forest; all around were several other shapes that I recognized as shadows. Somehow — though I’m still not entirely sure how — we had ended up on a bus. It’s possible that the jacaranda trees themselves are a dreamlike path leading to this collective.
In any case, I ordered my team and Class D to stay calm, and we began to retreat slowly, but when I looked back, I realized the portal arch was gone. The Class D members began to panic; the shadows started to draw closer. They all had forms resembling plants, animals, or insects. Delta tried to greet them, but they didn’t respond; they gave us puzzled looks, but didn’t seem hostile.
Even so, it was dangerous to stay with an unfamiliar group; I was about to order us to wake up and escape when a fierce blizzard swept over us — it seemed to take even the local shadows by surprise, causing them to flinch. The wind lashed through the forest, making the wood creak and sending a swirl of dry leaves flying around us. That’s when I felt the urge to look up, toward where the wind seemed to be coming from.
I’ll try to describe what I saw as best I can. It covered the entire sky; it had an impossible shape — perhaps resembling a pyramid or a spiral, maybe even a sphere. It was made up of thousands of plants: roots, leaves, stems, trunks, fruits — everything was one. Each of its parts moved in sync in what seemed like an endless dance. At the center of it all was a human in the form of a tree; its leaves were roses and it looked back at me, and that's when it opened its mouth.
A deafening scream echoed throughout the bus; somehow I felt that sound was affecting my dream self, so I quickly covered my ears. I turned to look at my classmates and realized they hadn’t reacted as quickly as I had — they were paralyzed, and branches and flowers were beginning to sprout from their shadows, just like with the Class D.
A shadow approached us; it was made of multicolored moss that covered what looked like a charred wooden body and insect wings, like a fly’s. It seemed to be speaking, as if giving a speech, then it placed its “hand” on D-3141’s “face,” accelerating its transformation. That’s when I reacted; I snapped out of my initial shock and, in a leap, crashed into my teammates.
That seemed to snap them out of their daze, and I shouted as loud as I could, “Wake up!” After that, I rushed back to my body as fast as I could, hoping for the best and that my teammates would be able to follow me.
Alpha woke up without any major complications, although he reported a desire to use reusable straws and bamboo toothbrushes — items he had not had prior to the mission. Delta and Rho also managed to wake up, but they suffered a psychotic episode and began attacking nearby staff, and were quickly subdued by security personnel. D-3141’s vital functions ceased shortly after the experiment; it is believed that his identity left his body and was lost in the discovered collective.
After several interviews, it was decided that the three Omicron Ro agents would be quarantined as a precaution.
